Specifications and Geometry

We use high quality 4130 cromo standard sized tubes on all Klickitat frames and forks. That means one inch top tubes! Silver brazed lugs and most braze ons, brass brazed drop outs and some joints/braze ons as we feel appropriate.

They are one inch threaded for quill stems have 130mm rear spacing for cassette road hubs. They're built for the 650b (584mm) wheel size, and will fit up to  Sim Works 43mm Homage tires and some fender, or a Compass Switchback Hill 48mm tires without fenders. Brake bosses are standard canti bosses for most standard Cantilever/V-brakes. They all have the Rene Herse Tail light mount (if you choose not to go with the Rene Herse light many battery lights can be fit in this M6 threaded mount). (*longer seat posts will need to be cut down to not hit the Rene Herse tailight braze on and wire.)

They are available in five sizes, 52cm, 54cm, 56cm, 58, and 60cm.

Tubes:

They are made with what we feel are the optimal lugs, drop outs, and standard sized tubes for Threaded headsets, quill stems and 27.2 seat posts.

Tubes are the classic “standard” size as follows: top tube is 8.5.8 4130 cromo in 1in. Down tube is 8.5.8 4130 cromo in 1 1/8th. The seat tube is also standard sized 1 1/8 in 4130 cromo, but it’s .9.6 butted; the .9mm thickness is just for a few inches down at the bb shell for optimal strength and stiffness at this high stress area, and weighs less than a few grams more than a .8.6 tube (.6 is the correct thickness of all seat tubes that take a 27.2 seat post).

The chain and seat stays are Columbus Cromor .8mm wall. These are our favorite stays, and we use them for everything, super light and stiff where you really need a bike to be stiff.

The fork uses Columbus Cromor fork blades, high quality 4130 1in threaded steer tube and the beautiful Pacenti “twin plate” fork crown.

Top tube: 25.4

Seat tube: 28.6 (for 27.2 seatpost).

Down tube: 28.6

Steer tube: 1 inch threaded (for standard 22.2 quill stem, and BSC standard threaded headsets).

Standard Braze ons:

Every frame will come equipped with the following braze ons:

  • Standard cantilever brake bosses.

  • Three sets of water bottle bosses (including an extra one on the seat tube so you can an Anything or Manythings cages except size 52).

  • Split stops on the top tube for rear brake housing.

  • A drilled and tapped bottom bracket shell for a replaceable cable guide (included).

  • A single rear split stop for the rear derailleur housing.

  • A pair of pump pegs on the seat stay (for the included modified Lezyne pump).

  • And, a pair of  standard down tube shifter bosses.

  • Single eyelet on the rear drop outs for fenders.

  • Double eyelets on the front drop outs for racks and fenders.

  • Mid fork/lowrider mounts.

  • And internal Dynamo wiring guides for any dynamo head light and the Rene Herse tail light.

*Dynamo lights are the truth, and if you do any night riding at all we strongly recommend a dynamo build. This is done with two reinforced holes in the fork for the headlight wire, and a reinforced hole in the down tube by the underside of the lug and a Rene Herse taillight braze on on the seat tube for the Rene Herse taillight.

*You might have noticed that all these bikes are square, meaning that the top tube and the seat tube are the same length measured ctc, (center to center). Some people will think this is weird and think they want/like/need short top tubes and longer stem. We make these bikes to fit short stems for a reason and recommend a 60 to 90mm stem. Longer top tubes and shorter stems mean more room for the front load such as the handle bar bag. It's more important to keep the bag as close to the head tube and especially behind the front hub's center as possible. Much more important that the aesthetic desire to have a certain proportionate look to a stem length.
